Cheese
Butties and the 12.39 to Wigan by Andrew
Mellor, ISBN: 9781857943542
Andrew chronicles his early trainspotting
life based around Liverpool in the
fifties. Firstly with paper and pencil
before moving onto basic tape recorder.
Much of his accounts are based on the
London Midland Region and audio
recordings on the Settle and Carlisle and
the West Coast Mainline in the Shap area!
The book reminded me so much of my own
coming of age as a trainspotter two
stations further out from Liverpool Lime
Street on the good old Liverpool and
Manchester Railway! |

Cumberbatch Reads Thrilling Stories of
the Railway by the Reverend
Victor Whitechurch (BBC CD version). Set
in late Victorian/Edwardian times, there
a five stories chery-picked from his book
of the same name. The stories feature the
fictional famous vegetarian railway
detective, Thorpe Hazell. The stories,
very much melodramas, show Whitechurch's
good knowledge or train operations to add
that realistic atmosphere. |

Reading
Between The Lines by Vic Millington with
foreword by Paul Atterbury ISBN:
978-0902544703 My late Uncle Frank in
Ipswich was a draughtsman and a water
colourist in his spare time. Several
times I sent him various local amateur
watercolourists efforts. Then, I spotted
this book and immediately ordered two
copies. Uncle Frank really enjoyed the
painting side whilst i appreciated Vic's
adventures as I had just started training
as a guard on the Kent and East Sussex
Railway. |

An
Illustrated History of Liverpool's
Railways by Paul Anderson ISBN:
9781871608687 This my bible for
authenticity in modelling London Midland
Region around Merseyside. As all my early
trainspotting experiences were based in
this area, it gives me great pleasure to
dwell in the past! Unfortunately, i lent
my copy to someone and my memory is not
that good these days! |
