Trainmadgrandad.co.uk, Life, Times and Thoughts of a Railway Enthusiast!'

Lynne and I recently enjoyed a two week holiday (September, 2024) on our share narrow canal boat, the Huxley, based at Dunchurch Pools Marina near Rugby. The marina sits on the North Oxford Canal. Another shareholder had left an updated copy of the Pearson's Canal Companion volume based on the Oxford/Grand Union canals and often refers to railway features. This encouraged me to seek out railway history whenever possible, both physically and maritally!!!

Many thanks to Pearson Canal Companions for the Maps, You Tube Video for Lonely Signal screenshot and Milton Keynes Model Railway Society N gauge Brinklow

Along the Oxford Canal
  • A visit to the modern Banbury Station during a drenching downpour!
  • Visit to a disused station at Fenny Compton
  • Observing the construction of HS2
  • The track bed of the defunct Great Central Railway and missing the Lonely Signal
  • Use of old railway materials
  • Canal meets WCML at Brinklow.
